JKBOSE to Award Grace Marks for Out-of-Syllabus Questions in Class 10th & 11th Exams

Srinagar, March 2: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has decided to grant grace marks to Class 10th and Class 11th students who faced out-of-syllabus questions in their recent annual exams.

This move comes after students voiced their frustration over errors in their question papers, leading to concerns about fairness in evaluation.

After receiving multiple complaints, JKBOSE formed a team of subject experts to review the issue. Their findings confirmed that some questions in various subjects, including Social Studies for Class 10th and Mathematics for Class 11th, were taken from portions that had been removed from the syllabus. Some students also reported similar issues in the Urdu exam.

A senior JKBOSE official acknowledged the mistake and assured that students would not be unfairly affected. “We understand the stress students go through during exams, and we don’t want them to suffer due to someone else’s mistake. That’s why we will be awarding genuine grace marks to ensure fairness,” the official said.

The issue first came to light when Class 11 students reported that questions worth 16 marks in their Mathematics paper were from deleted topics. Similarly, Class 10th students struggled with incorrectly placed questions in their Social Studies and Urdu exams. Many students felt anxious and helpless during the exams, knowing that they hadn’t studied those portions.

In addition to providing relief to students, JKBOSE is also taking strict action against those responsible for setting the flawed question papers. “Usually, such paper setters are blacklisted permanently. However, given the seriousness of the matter, we are also considering heavy penalties to make sure this doesn’t happen again,” the official added.

For now, students can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that they won’t lose marks due to these errors. JKBOSE has assured that the grace marks will be fair and will not compromise the credibility of the examination system.
